Send and view docs in Chats

Your tax preparer may ask you to upload documents needed for your tax preparation (e.g., Form W2, 1099-MISC, 1099-K, 1099-SA, etc.) inside a message thread.

The maximum size for an uploaded file is 300 MB.

Upload documents to chats

You can either upload document from your device or link documents that are already uploaded to TaxDome. 

Click on the Attach button at the bottom of the chat thread, then select your preference:

  • Attaching files from TaxDome: Select From TaxDome, then click the folder and choose the documents.

  • Uploading files from your computer: Select From my computer, then locate the documents you want to upload and select the folder where you want to upload documents.

  • Uploading Zip archives: Select From my computer, then locate the compressed file you want to upload. It will automatically unzip. Here’s more on uploading zip files .

Click the paper clip icon in the chat thread to view all documents attached to the thread. Click + Add document in the documents list to upload additional files.

When attaching file inside a message thread, you’ll have the option of uploading files from your device , taking a photo , or linking the files that are already stored in your portal.

To add files from TaxDome, tap the plus icon inside a chat thread, then Uploaded documents. Select the folder and tap the file name. All the files from the Documents section are available here.

You can also navigate to the Attached tab inside a chat thread, tap Attach documents, then Uploaded documents.

All documents uploaded via chat threads are stored in your portal and can be found inside the Documents section.

Remove documents

If you upload the wrong document, remove it by clicking the X next to its name in the documents list.

If you have uploaded the wrong document, go the the Attached tab inside a chat thread, long-tap the chosen document and tap Remove attachment.

View and download documents

To access files uploaded to chats by you or your accountant, click the paper clip icon in the chat thread to open the document list, then click the download icon to save the file to your computer. Learn more about specifying where files are downloaded .

To view any of the files you or your accountant have uploaded to your chat threads, tap the name of the document in the chat thread or in the Attached tab.

To download the file:

  1. Go to the Attached tab inside a chat thread, long-tap the chosen document and tap Download.

  2. Tap Allow to give TaxDome access to photos, media and files on your device, if needed (you need to do this only once).

  3. Select the location where files should be saved.
